Committed to Connecting Our Community to Christ

Our Vision (as summarized above):

We are faithful in using our God-given gifts and talents, devoting ourselves to the task of making disciples of Jesus Christ.  (Matthew 28:18-20)  We build relationships both outside and within the church, demonstrating Christ-like compassion in responding to the needs of others.  (1 Peter 4:10)  Christ calls us to make disciples throughout the world: beginning in the Hamlet of Mendon, the neighborhoods in which we live and the greater Rochester area and beyond through support of missions & human-care ministries.  (Acts 1:8)  All that we do is in obedience to our Lord Jesus, carrying out his Great Commission:  making disciples, bringing lost people to a saving faith; and nurturing believers to mature in the faith. (Luke 19:10)

The Role of Our Leaders:

"Caring for the Committed So the Committed Can Care."

Stretch Your Spiritual Muscles!

Looking for an opportunity to dig deeper into the Word of God and grow in your faith?  Anyone who exercises knows that when you don't use your muscles they will atrophy.  The same is true of our faith - we can suffer spiritual atrophy if we settle in and don't challenge ourselves to grow.  Growing is good for you!  We challenge you to stretch yourself and participate in one of our Adult Education courses.

Here We Grow Again!

2010 finds our congregation in a unique place.  We are celebrating the 3rd anniversary of our Church Renovation, which added some much-needed space and made our facilities accessible to those with mobility concerns.  This past year, we completed the renovation of our Parish House, which includes the Church Office, Pastor's Study and rooms for Sunday School and meetings.  Attendance in worship and education has risen steadily over the past few years:  our parking lot is regularly full and we are quickly running out of classroom space.  God's plan is for his kingdom to grow:

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."  (Mark 4)

The growth of God's kingdom through the church is something that God brings about ("all by itself").  Our role is to be fertile soil in which the kingdom can do its work and bear fruit.  As we look to the future of St. Mark, we have opportunity to purchase an adjacent property, which would allow us to meet our growing needs and better serve our community.  We are currently in the midst of a capital fund drive to raise money for the purchase of this property.  Will you prayerfully ask the Lord to guide us in this process?  Ask also for a spirit of generosity that seeks to bless his kingdom work by preparing some fertile soil through your contribution.  And remember, God's challenge to give comes with a promise of blessing (Malachi 3 - "Bring the whole Tithe into the storehouse....and see if I don't pour open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing upon you that you cannot contain it!")

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod

St. Mark is a member congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, founded in 1847 in St. Louis, MO.  Our national church body has over 6,000 congregations and 2.5million members.  The term "Synod" simply means "walking together."  Together, we accomplish more:  we support missionaries on nearly every continent in the world; lend aid through World Relief and Human Care; provide education and training for professional church workers (pastors, teachers, directors of Christian education, Deaconesses, Parish Nurses) and a variety of degree fields through our Concordia University System:  10 Colleges throughout the country and two seminaries in Ft. Wayne, IN and St. Louis, MO.  For more information on our national church body, resources, or statements of faith, click here:  http://www.lcms.org/

Our national church body is divided into 35 regions ("Districts"), two of which are non-geographic.  These provide a liaison between congregations and the larger church body.  Walking together as a district allows congregations to uphold local missions and provide networking and support for pastors, teachers and other professional church workers.  Each region provides support staff that works with congregations and schools to facilitate ministry and mission, functioning as a local representative of the national office.  Regionally, St. Mark is a member of the Eastern District of the LC-MS.  The Eastern District incorporates congregations from Albany to Buffalo, Pennsylvania and two congregations in Western Maryland.    The Eastern District Office is in Williamsville, NY (Buffalo area).  For more information about our Eastern District, click here:  http://www.lcmsed.org/
