St. Mark Ministries
Worship
St. Mark offers two worship services on Sunday mornings: a traditional style of worship at 9am and a contemporary service at 10:30am. Pastor Smith leads worship and preaches from Scripture to provide practical application of God's Word to our lives. We are a people who love to sing- and it shows!
Discipleship - Growing in Faith
Sunday School is one of our valued ministries. Dedicated teachers and assistants work diligently to provide instruction for children in preschool through High School, using bible-based curriculum, hands-on crafts and high energy activities. During the summer hiatus, children are invited to participate in our Vacation Bible School.
Adults also enjoy the opportunity to grow in faith. Two adult classes are held each Sunday, one led by the Pastor an another led by a member of St. Mark. There are also two small groups which meet monthly in members' homes. These discussion-based groups provide an opportunity to build relationships with other members and offer Christian care and support.
Confirmation Instruction for children in grades 7-8 builds on the foundation of Sunday School, provides a review of the Old and New Testaments, and covers the six chief parts of the Christian faith as outlined in Luther's Small Catechism: Ten Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, Baptism, Lord's Supper, and the Office of the Keys. Faith INKubators provides our confirmation curriculum which uses a multi-level approach to instruction with PowerPoint presentations, MP3s, group discussion, game-show style quizzes, and parent involvement. Confirmation is a two-year program at St. Mark and includes Youth and Servant Events in addition to classroom experience.
Leadership
The Church Council is a member elected board which works with the pastor to carry out our ministries and administrative functions: Elders, Education, Stewardship, Evangelism, Trustees, and Finance. These leaders work to ensure that the congregation is both inwardly strong and outwardly focused as we fulfill our Committment to Connecting Our Community to Christ.
Fellowship and Community Service
There are a variety of ways to serve the members of the congregation and our immediate community. These includes summer bowling, family game nights, a Scrapbooking group, Summer Hang Time for Youth, and refreshments after church. Community outreach takes the form of he following are just a few other examples : sponsoring a pizza booth at the Firemen’s Carnival, holding a semi-annual Chicken BBQ & Supper, an Easter breakfast, midweek suppers during Advent and Lent, and a Kids Playdough Booth at at the Mendon Station Festival.
Sharing and Caring
Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and sharing His love with our fellow man is our primary mission. We try to do this by words, by the way we live, and by our actions. Contacting members on a monthly basis, singing Christmas carols at nursing homes and at the homes of shut-ins, giving donations to mission projects, sending “care” packages to those in other countries, sending gloves and mittens to a mission in New Mexico, volunteering at a local hospice, hosting a St. Pauly’s clothing drop box, and donating Christmas gifts to needy kids in a nearby city are just a few of the ways we share and care. We welcome you to join us at St. Mark in sharing and caring for others.
Men's & Women's Ministries
St. Mark involves women and men to be involved in fellowship and
service opportunities. Our Ladies' Aid supports mission
work and seeks to provide opportunities for the nurture and growth of women in
Christ. Men participate in hands-on projects and have enjoyed occasional breakfasts with devotions and guests
speakers.
